Acne torment everyone, from movie stars to little mortals. There are expensive creams, injectable fillers and hundreds of home remedies to clear dark circles, reduce puffiness and even out the eye area. But among all of them, there is one that works flawlessly for almost everyone. Wondering what this wonderful remedy is? Why is it the humble potato?
Why do potatoes help reduce dark circles and Get rid of acne?
There is a lot of information that says potatoes are natural bleaching agents. But it’s not only far from the truth, it’s a little bit the opposite of what they do. These sources without research cite the catecholase enzyme as what lightens the skin, when in reality it stimulates melanin production by reaction with oxygen.
So you have to ask yourself: how do potatoes reduce dark circles, then?
On the one hand, they contain vitamin C, which has famous skin lightening effects. In addition to this, potatoes also contain vitamin K, the vitamin with full cucumber peels, which treats blood clotting. This helps to reduce venous and violet bruising in the area under the eyes. Potatoes also contain vitamin B3, whose deficiency causes dark circles, but this is more of a reason to eat potatoes, as they are well absorbed when consumed and not applied locally.
Finally, and by far the most important, the potato also contains niacin, a new skin lightening agent that is known to treat even stubborn pigmentation such as acne scars. For those who have dark circles caused by photoaging, this plays a major role in reducing pigmentation.
Potatoes also fight bags under the eyes
Potatoes, like cucumbers, are not only rich in water, but can also stay cool for a long time. This helps the nutrients mentioned above to be absorbed by your skin. But more importantly, it addresses a common problem under the eyes: bags.
The coldness of a slice of potato can help reduce swelling and inflammation under tired eyes by tightening blood vessels. Eyeshadow bags, bye bye bye bye bye!
How to make potato juice and apply potatoes to your acne and pimples
There are many ways to extract potato juice and apply potatoes to the subocular area to combat dark circles. If you want to keep it simple, you can freeze a washed potato overnight, slice it in the morning and apply it to your closed eyes for 10 minutes. Some recommend gently rubbing the slices on the area under the eyes to let the nutrients penetrate.
If you want to make potato juice for topical application for a few days for chronic dark circles, it’s easy to do it too. First, peel a potato and grate it. Now macerate the pulp to extract the juice by placing it on a muslin cloth and pressing the liquid. Collect in a jar and refrigerate.
You can apply it by dipping a cotton pad in the juice and leaving it on your (closed) eyes, including the area under the eyes, for 20 minutes.
As if acne wasn’t bad enough, there’s the memory she leaves behind – the fright – just a friendly reminder that in her place, there was one day a dazzling shrivelled man who thought we could one day leave us for good, but instead, we have the unshakeable trace of her existence.
Laser treatments and prescription creams are targeted to help discolour them, of course, but dollars are quickly accumulating. That’s why we’re happy to offer you some home remedies that will help you preserve your bank balance and avoid a trip to the dermatologist. Take a look at some of the remedies tested below.
Lemon juice + Honey
“It is very important to target only the pigmented area (spot treatment). Otherwise, the results will not be as visible,” says Michelle Ranavat, founder of Ranavat Botanics. One of its favourite recipes is a simple concoction of lemon and honey that helps to lighten the skin, thus lightening the hyperpigmentation left by the pimple.
Lemon juice contains citric acid, which is an alpha-hydroxy acid similar to those used in chemical peels and will help to discover new skin. Honey is ideal to keep your skin hydrated and will treat any existing inflammation. Soak a cotton pad in fresh lemon juice and apply to brown spots. Then apply a thin layer of raw honey and leave on for 15 to 20 minutes before rinsing. Apply three times a week for three to four weeks to see the results.”
If you want to spend a little more and get even more nourishing ingredients in the mixture, Ranavat recommends its Flawless Veil mask with honey and orange peel powder, turmeric, licorice root, sandalwood, and saffron, which are all known to brighten the complexion as well.
Chickpea + Yogurt Mask
This spot treatment contains chickpea flour, which naturally exfoliates and bleaches the skin. It also helps to control sebum and maintain the pH of your skin. This mixture requires yogurt for an extra-cold treatment that exfoliates the skin naturally thanks to the lactic acid present in addition to killing bacteria. Take a look at his recipe below.
1 tsp. gram flour (chickpea flour)1/2 tsp. turmeric1 tsp. raw honey
Add the freshly squeezed lemon juice until a foamy texture is obtained and apply to the brown spots. Leave on for 15 to 20 minutes and rinse with warm water. Apply three times a week for three to four weeks to see the results.
Combine with yogurt (preferably whole milk) for an additional refreshing treatment that naturally exfoliates the skin with the lactic acid present.
TREATMENT OF SALICYLIC SPOTS IN GREEN TEA
Angela Jia Kim, founder of Savor Beauty and Spas, recommends this very easy and useful treatment: “Aspirin is a surprising acne product that most of us have at home, it’s aspirin. Its natural salicylic acid can dry out rashes and reduce swelling. To do this, crush two aspirins in a tablespoon of cooled green tea, which contains antioxidants to double the fight against acne. You will want a pasty consistency. Make sure your hands are clean, apply your green tea salicylic paste to the bud as a spot treatment. “Let it work for 3 to 5 minutes and wash yourself.”
Bamboo and rice face mask
For home spa acne treatment, Kim recommends taking one tablespoon of Savor Beauty Bamboo Rice Face Cake Mask, mixing with two tablespoons of Tea Tree Toning Mist or cooled green tea, and applying it to the affected area. Moroccan lava and French green clays as well as bamboo exfoliator are powerful detoxifiers to dry the pimple and reduce redness while the tea tree is antibacterial and cleansing.
